Microsoft 365 E7 Is Here: What to Do in the First 30 Days

Microsoft 365 E7 Is Here: What to Do in the First 30 Days
  • May 18, 2026

E7 launched in May with four enterprise products bundled into one. Here is what to activate, audit, and govern before the business gets ahead of you.

Microsoft 365 E7 pricing overview: $99/user/month launch price, $15 Agent 365 standalone, 15% saving vs separate licences, 30% licence cost reduction with TeamsFox
Microsoft 365 E7 (Frontier Suite) launches at $99 per user/month, bundling E5, Copilot, Entra Suite, and Agent 365 — delivering ~15% savings over separate purchases. TeamsFox customers achieve an average 30% reduction in licence costs.

1. What Microsoft 365 E7 Actually Contains

Microsoft 365 E7, branded the Frontier Suite, went live on 1 May 2026. The pricing is $99 per user per month on an annual term. At that price, you get four products that were previously sold separately: Microsoft 365 E5, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Microsoft Entra Suite, and Agent 365.

Bought individually from July 2026, those four components cost approximately $117 per user per month. E7 compresses that to $99, a saving of roughly 15%. That number matters when you are justifying the upgrade to a CFO. The bundle value is real.

What E7 actually delivers on day one for most organisations is a consolidation play. If you are already running E5 with a Copilot add-on, the incremental cost to reach E7 is smaller than the list price suggests. The new capabilities are Agent 365 and the Entra Suite, and those are what IT teams need to configure and govern in the first 30 days.

2. Microsoft 365 E7 vs E5: What the Upgrade Actually Changes

The E5 vs E7 comparison is straightforward on paper: E7 adds Copilot, the Entra Suite, and Agent 365 to the E5 baseline. In practice, those additions introduce meaningful new complexity that many IT teams are not yet ready for.

Copilot most organisations have already assessed. It needs clean data, governed permissions, and a clear acceptable-use policy. If those were not in place before, the E7 upgrade is the moment to fix them.

Entra Suite is the more underappreciated addition. It bundles Entra ID Governance, Entra Private Access, Entra Internet Access, and Entra ID Protection into a single licence. That is a significant identity and access management upgrade. Access reviews, entitlement management, and conditional access policies do not configure themselves.

Agent 365 is the new E7 feature most organisations have not yet thought about. It is Microsoft’s governance and visibility layer for AI agents, the control plane for everything running in Copilot Studio, Power Automate, and Azure AI Foundry. Getting this right in the first 30 days is not optional.

“E7 bundles four enterprise products into one subscription. The bundle is only as valuable as the policies you put around it.”

3. Agent 365: What It Is and What to Govern First

Agent 365 is now generally available as both a standalone product at $15 per user per month and as a core component of Microsoft 365 E7. It provides a centralised registry and governance layer for AI agents running across your Microsoft 365 environment.

What Agent 365 covers: a central agent inventory, policy controls for which agents can run and what they can access, integration with Microsoft Defender for agent threat detection, Entra ID policy enforcement for agent identities, and Purview compliance controls for agent-generated content.

What Agent 365 does not cover: tenant-wide visibility into storage consumed by agent data, full lifecycle management of agents created outside approved channels, and cross-workload analytics showing where agent activity intersects with licence and storage costs. Those gaps are real and they matter for any organisation running agents at scale.

In the first 30 days, IT teams should configure the Agent 365 policy layer, define what constitutes an approved agent, assign governance ownership, and run an inventory scan of agents already running in the tenant. The window for proactive AI agent governance is now, before the business has deployed 50 agents without IT oversight.

Note: Agent 365 provides a governance floor for AI agents. It does not provide tenant-wide cost visibility or cross-workload analytics. Confirm what your monitoring stack can and cannot see before committing to a full agentic deployment.

4. Your First 30 Days with Microsoft 365 E7: A Practical IT Checklist

Breaking the first 30 days into three phases makes the workload manageable.

Days 1 to 10: Baseline and audit. Run a full licence audit. Identify which users actually need E7 versus which can remain on E3 or E5. Right-sizing now prevents paying for capabilities nobody uses. Audit Copilot readiness: data permissions, sensitivity labels, and oversharing risks. E7 includes Copilot and it must be configured safely before users get access. Inventory existing agents. Use Agent 365 to pull a list of what is already running in Copilot Studio, Power Automate, and Azure AI Foundry.

Days 11 to 20: Configure and govern. Configure Entra Suite capabilities including access reviews, entitlement management policies, and conditional access rules for the new identity features now in scope. Define the agent governance policy: who can create agents, what data they can access, and what approval process applies. Review storage posture. E7 adds AI-generated content to your tenant. Understand where that data will live and who can access it.

Days 21 to 30: Validate and report. Run a governance report confirming that licences are assigned correctly, agents are inventoried, and Copilot permissions are clean. Calculate ROI: document the licence cost saving versus your previous stack for finance. Set a 90-day governance review date. E7 is a complex environment. Build in a checkpoint before the business adds more capabilities.

5. Where TeamsFox Fits in a Microsoft 365 E7 Environment

Microsoft 365 E7 adds capability. It does not add visibility. Native E7 reporting shows you what Microsoft has licensed, not what is actually being used, what storage is being consumed, or where governance has drifted.

TeamsFox runs a continuous analysis of your entire M365 tenant: licence assignments, storage utilisation, permissions exposure, and agent activity patterns. Customers using TeamsFox for Microsoft 365 licence management achieve an average 30% reduction in licence costs. That saving directly increases the return on an E7 investment.

For E7 specifically, TeamsFox surfaces three things Microsoft’s own tooling cannot: which E7 licences are underutilised within 30 days of upgrade, which storage volumes are growing as agent outputs accumulate, and which governance policies have not been applied consistently across the tenant.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Microsoft 365 E7?

Microsoft 365 E7, also called the Frontier Suite, is Microsoft’s highest enterprise licensing tier. It bundles Microsoft 365 E5, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Microsoft Entra Suite, and Agent 365 into a single subscription at $99 per user per month. It launched on 1 May 2026 and is the first new enterprise tier since E5 launched in 2015.

What is the difference between Microsoft 365 E5 and E7?

E7 adds Microsoft 365 Copilot, the Entra Suite (identity governance and access management), and Agent 365 (AI agent governance) to the E5 baseline. E5 remains available for organisations not yet ready to activate Copilot or Agent 365. E7 costs $99 per user per month; E5 is priced at $60 per user per month from July 2026.

Is Agent 365 included in Microsoft 365 E7?

Yes. Agent 365 is included in Microsoft 365 E7 (the Frontier Suite) at no extra cost. It is also available as a standalone add-on at $15 per user per month. Agent 365 provides a centralised registry and policy layer for AI agents running across the Microsoft 365 environment.

What is the Microsoft 365 E7 pricing?

Microsoft 365 E7 is priced at $99 per user per month on an annual commitment. Microsoft is running promotional pricing through 31 December 2026, which can reduce the effective price for qualifying organisations. The four components cost approximately $117 per user per month bought separately, making E7 a saving of around 15%.

Do I need to upgrade from E5 to E7?

Only if your organisation is actively using or planning to activate Copilot and Agent 365. If neither is on your roadmap in the next 12 months, E5 remains a strong choice. Run a licence audit first to understand your actual usage before committing to the upgrade.
